Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), informed, in a decision this Friday (4), that X deposited R$ 28.6 million in fines owed to the Court in an incorrect account. Moraes ordered the payment to be regularized so that the social network X can return to operating in Brazil.
Earlier, the company informed the Supreme Court that the fine had been paid and asked for the platform to be unblockedwhich has been suspended since August 30th.
In the decision, Moraes said that the amount was deposited in a Caixa account, but should have been sent to a judicial account at Banco do Brasil.
“There is, therefore, a need to regularize the deposit made by X Brasil Internet LTDA, so that the fines can be effectively and fully paid”, decided the minister.
The minister also ordered Caixa to “immediately transfer” the amount to the correct account.
After the payment was regularized, Moraes ordered the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) to give its opinion on the unblocking request. Then, the minister will decide whether to release the platform.
Moraes took the X off the air after the company closes its office in Brazil and no longer has a legal representative in the country, a mandatory condition for any firm to operate.
Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of the social network, announced the closure of the company’s headquarters in Brazil after the network was fined for refusing to comply with the order to remove profiles of those investigated by the Court for publishing messages considered anti-democratic.
However, representation was reactivated in recent weeks, and lawyer Rachel Villa Nova returned to be the network’s legal representative. With the reopening of the representation and the payment of the fine, X asked the minister to return to the air.
