SANTO DOMINGO.- The representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in the country, Rodrigo Castañeda, highlighted that the Dominican Republic has made significant progress in reducing levels of undernourishment, going from 8.7% in in 2020 to 4.6% in 2024 and that this progress brings the country closer to the possibility of completely eradicating hunger.
«Congratulations Mr. President for this important advance. Part of these reasons for reducing hunger in the country was the increase in the availability of food, in this sense the political commitment of the government, the Ministry of Agriculture and other institutions belonging to agriculture, with the strengthening of a pork sector. healthy, they play a key role in continuing to reduce their indicators,” he expressed.
The FAO representative offered this information during the ceremony to deliver the first biosafety certificates to four pig farms in the Dominican Republic, which was headed by President Luis Abinader, within the framework of the National Pig Biosafety Plan, implemented since last year.
Castañeda stated that the presence of President Abinader at this event underlines his leadership and commitment to strengthened agricultural production and added that the implementation of biosafety measures arouses interest.
