The Chancellor of the Republic, Roberto Álvarez, denied the accusations of former President Leonel Fernández, who stated that some 39,000 tourist visas had been issued to Haitians in the country and more than 400,000 in 2024 through the consulates.
Álvarez clarified that, from January to June, no visas have been issued, and that only 102 visas were granted for humanitarian trade reasons in July, while none were issued in August and September.
The chancellor described these statements as false and noted that their disclosure is “an irresponsible and evil way.” In a joking tone, Álvarez added: “I don’t know if they dreamed it one night or where they came from, but they don’t have any reality viewer.”
