Abinader: “This management is committed to transparency”

Abinader: “Los cambios son esenciales en las instituciones del Gobierno”

Santo Domingo.- The president Luis Abinader This Thursday, it reaffirmed its commitment to an open, transparent and accessible government to strengthen democracy and citizen confidence in its institutions.

“I reaffirm our commitment to a government that acts with maximum transparency and that always lives up to the expectations of our people. “Together we can build a country where every Dominican feels proud of their government and their participation in public life.”

When delivering his words at the presentation of the V Open Government Action Plan of the Dominican Republic, the president emphasized that information on public management is a right of all citizens and that the government must be responsible for guaranteeing that said information is available to everyone.

“Every Dominican has the right to know how their resources are managed,” said Abinader, highlighting that transparency encourages the active participation of citizens and strengthens dialogue between the government and citizens.

The president stressed that citizen trust is the pillar that supports the democratic system and that, without transparency, the possibility of building a just and equitable society is put at risk.

Concrete measures towards a more open government

The head of state assured that, through digital platforms, they are taking firm steps towards a more open government, strengthening communication and facilitating access to information.

Among the measures mentioned, the creation, for the first time in the Dominican Republic, of the Multi-Stakeholder Open Government Forum stood out, a platform intended to coordinate and facilitate the formulation of national action plans for the Alliance for Open Government.

Likewise, the implementation of the Fifth Action Plan 2022-2024 and other key projects such as the Zero Bureaucracy Program Towards an Efficient Government; Contact Center: Take care of your mental health; Opening of territorial claims; and the Eficompras RD Portal.

In addition, President Abinader cited the importance of open data in the development of transparent public policies and in that sense, he mentioned the creation of the first National Open Data Policy and the first National Data Commission, which have already presented two Plans. Opening of Data for the years 2023 and 2024.

Projections towards the future

Abinader announced that the creation of the Sixth Action Plan of the Dominican Republic before the Alliance for Open Government for the period 2024-2028 has already begun, reaffirming the country’s commitment to accountability, prevention of corruption and promotion of integrity and citizen participation.

“Each of us, from the highest office to the citizen who exercises their right to vote, has a crucial role in building a culture of accountability and public ethics.”

Recognition of international leadership The president also used the occasion to highlight the leadership of Sanjay Pradhan CEO of the Open Government Alliance, who recently announced his retirement. “I want to congratulate you for your contribution to the creation of more transparent, responsible and inclusive governments. Your legacy will remain forever in history,” he said.
