Iztapalapa stops permits for large constructions; seeks to improve water supply

Stop Side 1

In the Iztapalapa council session, the head of the demarcation, Aleida Alavez, proposed ratifying a notice, previously approved by the previous administration, in which a moratorium is imposed on Side 1 in terms of urban development.

This agreement points out that no public servant in the district should authorize the construction of high-impact buildings, in order to avoid water supply problems, until the level of supply is restored to what it was six years ago.

In an interview, Aleida Alavez, mayor of Iztapalapa, assured that this district has decreased the water supply by up to 42 percent in the last six years, as a result of droughts and overexploitation of the aquifer.

Regarding Side Number 1, in terms of urban development, it is announced that requests for neighborhood advertising and registration of type B and C construction demonstrations will not be processed.

What are those high-impact constructions?

Aleida Alavez recalled that according to what is established by the Urban Development Law, these large constructions that apply to the Bando 1 moratorium are those that exceed more than 5,000 square meters of construction that are not residential or if they are in this category, that are not They are large private real estate corporations.

“Iztapalapa decreased its water supply by 42 percent in the last six years. We are reducing supply sources from six years to date and well, we cannot then turn to a development possibility of this magnitude when we lack this vital liquid,” he said.

Among the constructions that are not allowed in Iztapalapa are:

  • Shopping centers
  • Commercial Plazas
  • Self-service or department stores that impact the water supply to surrounding residents.
  • Large residential real estate developments.

Mayor Aleida Alavez clarified that this measure applies only to large constructions.

“This obviously does not impact the construction of single-family homes. If there are neighbors who want to expand, build in their homes, obviously they can do it. “This is nothing more than high-impact construction,” he clarified.
