The Minister of Transportation, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán, reported that the suspension of flights with Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Chile remains in place to prevent the entry into the country of people with “some nefarious intentions.”
In statements to the media this Wednesday, he stated that the authorities carry out an “exhaustive check of all passengers entering Venezuela” and in the case tailored to these countries (Panama, Dominican Republic, Peru and Chile) it is a decision made in the high government “as a mechanism to protect the people.”
He emphasized that for now it is an “extreme security situation” to maintain control of all passengers, both national and foreign, who enter the national territory.
Regarding the reactivation of flights, he stated that they are coordinating with the airlines, “because we know that it is a situation of supply and demand; However, we hope that we can return in a reasonable time to the amount of frequency we had.”
Despite this, he highlighted that government-to-government commercial relations are maintained, as well as the development of the economy and commercial exchange, by orders of President Nicolás Maduro.
On July 29, the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (Inac) reported through an official statement the suspension of flights to Panama and the Dominican Republic, following the interventionist actions of both governments.
