Sheinbaum will send reform package to guarantee women's rights

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaumreported that this Thursday he will send a proposal to the Legislative Branch to modify six constitutional articles in favor of protection of women; In addition, he announced the creation of a Women’s Rights Booklet.

During the morning press conference this Thursday, October 3, the president explained that the initiative, in addition to the six constitutional articles (4, 21, 41, 73, 116 and 123), seeks to modify seven secondary laws with the objective of protect women’s rights and promote gender parity in public administration.

The fourth article incorporates the right to substantive equality, which has to do not only with equality… but also all the laws and all the provisions of our country have to consider the particularities of women and their human rights. “explained Sheinbaum Pardo.

Furthermore, article 21 would establish that public security institutions act with a gender perspectivewhile article 41 will guarantee gender parity in federal and state cabinets.

Also, the modification of article 123 will seek to establish measures in labor laws to eradicate the wage gap between men and women.

Creation of the Women’s Rights Booklet

On the other hand, the creation of the Drafting Commission for the Women’s Rights Booklet was announced, which is made up of Angela Guerrero Alcantara, Karla Michel Salas Ramirez, Phryne Salguero and Frida Hyadi Díaz González.

“We want to distribute a booklet of women’s rights to all people and, in fact, they should also be for men and women. We have to know women’s rights, human rights, but unfortunately, sometimes a woman who experiences violence does not know that she is experiencing violence, or a woman who earns less than a man when she does the same work, does not know that her right is to receive the same salary,” explained the head of the federal Executive.
