ANDl Public Ministry decided to open an investigation against the prosecutor Marita Barreto Rivera who is coordinator of the Special Team of Prosecutors (Eficcop). Said investigation is for the alleged commission of a crime against the public administration in the form of improper disclosure of identity, omission, refusal or delay of functional acts to the detriment of the State.
It was the congressman Guillermo Bermejor who made it known to the press that the prosecutor had leaked confidential information about her case. This is following what the journalistic director of the Contracorriente de Willax program stated, as he pointed out that The prosecutor summoned him to a park to give her information about the legislator.
“I myself have been called by her at some point; not to her office, but to a park near her house. Exactly a year ago. On September 1, 2023. For what? To leak a file to me “He gave me a USB and leaked a file that contained all the confidential information in the case of Congressman Guillermo Bermejo,” he explained.
The prosecutor’s conversation would be recorded
Carlos Paredes said that last September 1, 2023 was when that meeting with the prosecutor took place. Barreto in a park in the Jesús María district and gave him Congressman Bermejo’s information on a USB. Furthermore, he assured that everything was recorded by him to demonstrate the leak and that this supposed audio would last 18 minutes.
Paredes said that he had a close relationship with the prosecutor and that he has visited her in her office a couple of times but that relationship ended when she sent a criminal complaint against him for the alleged crime of ‘disobedience to authority.’
“He says that there is disobedience against his authority because we did not send him an audio that had appeared in a report two years ago inCountercurrent. I answered him and told him: ‘We don’t have that material because it has been recycled’ and we sent him the master of the report, but even with that hisprovincial prosecutorcriminally denounces me. And I, as a citizen, have responded to that complaint. I had a honest prosecutor who found that there was nothing in that complaint and filed it,” he said.
The prosecutor has denied the accusations
Prosecutor Barreto said that all this is a plot against her to be able to remove her from her position at Eficcop. He maintained that this meeting with Carlos Paredes did occur but that he never gave him any information about any investigation.
“First, because I am not anyone’s informant and I don’t have to be; second, because I have not leaked any information to this man. Quite the contrary, from the audio you can see how I recommend that the press, sometimes, can commit some errors that harm the investigation in the desire to inform, and the desire to inform cannot in any way harm the confidentiality of the information, it is in that context,” he told RPP.
