New scanners were installed in the port of Montevideo

Since this Wednesday the 2nd, the port of Montevideo has three high-tech scanners in the Port of Montevideo.

The inauguration ceremony, which took place on the morning of this Wednesday the 2nd, was attended by the President of the Republic, Dr. Luis Lacalle Pou; the Minister of Economy and Finance, Azucena Arbeleche; the Minister of Transportation and Public Works, José Luis Falero, and the Undersecretary Juan José Olaizola; and the National Director of Customs, Jaime Borgiani, among other national authorities.

“These are three high-energy mobile X-ray scanners, two of them are installed at the North access (former Maciel access), on reinforced concrete platforms, where trucks can be scanned in motion. To guarantee the safety of workers and transporters against the radiation emitted by this equipment, protective walls have been raised around the operational areas,” reports the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP) in a statement.

These new technologies are designed to operate continuously, 24 hours a day, every day, allowing more agile and exhaustive control of goods entering and leaving the country. The head of Customs, Borgiani, indicated that these are “three state-of-the-art scanning equipment, for security and the fight against drug trafficking.”
