Jauja: Residents channel a tributary to avoid natural disasters

Given the inaction of the authorities of the Apata district, in Jauja, a group of residents from the town center of Nueva Esperanza decided to join together to channel the main tributary of the area, with the aim of preventing natural disasters in the face of the imminent rainy season that looms

Ricardo Pecho and Lázaro Espinoza lead this initiative driven by the need to protect families and farmland. With their own money they managed to rent heavy machinery to speed up the prosecution work, while their neighbors collaborate with volunteer labor.

“We are cleaning and channeling the river on our own initiative because in previous years we suffered the ravages of nature and many were affected while waiting for the intervention of the municipality’s machinery,” explains Chest

He emphasized the importance of acting preventively to safeguard the life and property of the community. “This collective effort reflects the determination of residents to guarantee the safety of their homes in the face of the imminent threat of disasters,” he stated.
