The National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) made available, this Wednesday (2), on its internet portal, the document The Enem 2024 Writing – Participant’s Handbook. The material seeks to clarify doubts about criteria that make a text well qualified in the National High School Exam (Enem).
In addition to information about the test reference matrix, there are commented examples of essays that received the maximum score (1,000 points) in Enem 2023.
On November 3rd, the first day of the exam, participants must write a dissertation-argumentative text of up to 30 lines. A problem situation will be proposed, which will serve as a basis for the development of the essay.
Among the skills required in Enem are mastery of formal written Portuguese; the organization of information, facts and arguments to defend a point of view; knowledge of the linguistic mechanisms necessary for argumentation and the intervention proposal for the problem addressed.
Each evaluator will assign a grade between 0 and 200 points for each of the five competencies. There will be two evaluators for each text. The participant’s final grade will be the arithmetic average between the two scores assigned by the evaluators.
Some criteria can cause the grade to be zero: avoidance of the topic, text with up to seven lines, section deliberately disconnected from the topic, disobedience to the essay-argumentative structure and disrespect for the seriousness of the exam.
Public and private educational institutions use Enem to select students. The test scores also serve as a parameter for access to government aid, such as the Student Financing Fund (Fies). Individual results can also be used in the selection processes of Portuguese institutions that have an agreement with Inep. The agreements guarantee easy access to grades for Brazilian students interested in pursuing higher education in Portugal.
