Two missing reported after implosion at Brugal distillery

Reportan dos desaparecidos tras implosión en destilería Brugal

Two people are missing after the implosion of one of the vinasse storage tanks at the distillery this Wednesday morning. Brugal House located in the province of San Pedro de Macorís.

According to a statement from Casa Brugal, the incident occurred during a welding job carried out by two external technicians from a contracting company.

The company reported that operations were stopped and Security Protocols were activated. In addition, they are in contact with the contracting company and the families of those affected.

“All collaborators were gathered at a meeting point established by the Protocol. It is important to clarify that, so far, the incident has not affected any other staff member. The employees who are not participating in rescue work and in the implementation of the Safety Protocol have been sent to their homes without injuries or physical effects,” he noted.

Firefighters, Civil Defense and 911 Service are on site carrying out search and rescue efforts.

“We reiterate our commitment to the safety of all our employees and contractors and we will continue to report on the progress in the rescue efforts and control of the situation,” he concluded.
