Antipulpo Case: court admits new evidence from Alexis Medina

The Second Collegiate Court of the National District has decided to admit the new evidence presented by Juan’s defense Alexis Medina Sanchezmain accused of Antipulpo casewithin the framework of the investigation of the alleged falsification of an exclusivity letter from a Taiwanese company, used to supply medicines to the Ministry of Public Health.

The admitted evidence, which includes testimonials and documents, was presented during the last hearing.

Last Monday, the former director of Public Purchasing and Contracting of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MISPAS), Maritza Altagracia Suriel Viloria, declared in court that the company Domedical Supply SRL, of which Alexis Medina is the owner, “falsified a “exclusivity letter” to obtain drug supply contracts during the government of his brother, former president Danilo Medina Sánchez.

Alexis Medina’s lawyer, Richard Martínez, defended his client’s position by stating that they have presented new evidence that contradicts the accusations against him.

“Today we provide new evidence to contradict what they presented and strengthen the claim that the letter was not false,” Martínez explained to the press during a break in the hearing.

In addition, the defense requested the inclusion of the statements of Marcelo Kochen, owner of the company that sold the products to Medina. Judge Yissel Soto, when analyzing the request, highlighted that the conditions are in place to admit this evidence, highlighting the importance of a legitimate balance in the judicial process.

“Thus, in a legitimate balance and in the exercise of legal mechanisms, the court, at the time, will be able to assess in its proper dimension whether the prosecution or the defense is right, and in the end draw out the conclusions,” he explained. Judge Soto.

With the admission of this new evidence, the court is expected to carry out an exhaustive analysis of the situation, incorporating witness statements and other relevant documents, which could influence the outcome of the case.
