Gustavo Petro held a meeting with Claudia Sheinbaum after the inauguration ceremony of the Mexican president

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, stated on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 1, that Mexico – already under the presidency of Claudia Sheinbaum – will remain outside the efforts that Bogotá is carrying out together with Brazil to find peaceful solutions to the crisis in Venezuela. .

Approached by the press, Petro responded to the question from his country’s communicators about Mexico’s role in the Venezuelan issue in the following way: “Mexico will maintain its position of non-intervention in any matter, I see it more in the position of withdrawing.” of the discussion.”

According to the newspaper El Espectador, Claudia Sheinbaum and Gustavo Petro held a meeting in the Colombian president’s office; remembering that she was linked to the defunct M-19 guerrilla of which he was a part and expressed her good wishes for his administration to be the best possible.

Regarding the common agenda between Colombia and Mexico from now on, the Casa de Nariño assured that the arrival of Sheinbaum to power will help promote “the flags of progressivism”, this with the aim of achieving the commitment of a unified region in matter of more justice and equity for the “well-being of its people.”

Before his meeting with Sheinbaum, Peter He expressed his desire for Mexico to have a more active role in the Venezuelan situation as the current former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador had done, who weeks before handing over power, had put his country’s efforts on hold.

Colombia and Brazil have attempted a rapprochement with the Venezuelan government to try to reach consensus to overcome the crisis and recently, President Gustavo Petro stated that “if there is no presentation of minutes, there is no recognition.”
