Family of young woman missing in Mexico faces double tragedy: debt for her trip and desperate search

Now they are trying to raise more funds to travel and look for her, but the economic situation is desperate.

News Colombia.

The disappearance of six young Colombian women who traveled to Mexico in search of supposed work has generated deep concern and fear among their families, who have not received news from them for more than a week.

The young women, identified as Derlis Dayana Panesso Taborda (25 years old), Yarlín Giraldo Soto (21 years old), Sofía Vázquez Giraldo (21 years old), Maranyeli Michel Chacón Álvarez (20 years old), Michel Daniela Morales (21 years old) and Layma Argenis Parra Cerquera (23 years old), traveled with the promise of getting a job, but now their loved ones fear that they have fallen into a human trafficking network.

Duván Paneso, Derlis’ brother, said in an interview with Blu Radio that the last communication he had with her was on September 25, around 8:18 at night.

Through the location of his mobile phone, the family discovered that he was in Veracruz, although he was originally supposed to arrive in Mexico City.

After that last call, her phone was turned off and since then there has been no more information about her or the other young women.

They ask the Government for help

Duván explained that the young women received invitation letters that seemed suspicious, but they still decided to travel in the hope of improving their lives.

“They summoned them with a letter and a lie,” he said, highlighting that concern for the safety of the missing women is growing.

The family managed to track Derlys’ phone, but after that signal in Veracruz, they have had no further contact.

Despite the anguish and efforts of the families, the authorities in both Colombia and Mexico have not responded effectively, according to Duván.

“We feel abandoned,” he said, making an urgent appeal to the Colombian government, which has not yet provided the necessary support.

He even highlighted that President Gustavo Petro is currently in Mexico, but so far he has not intervened in the case.

Families went into debt to travel

In the midst of this pain, the Paneso family faces a double tragedy: in addition to Derlys’ disappearance, they find themselves in financial difficulties after having borrowed money so that she could travel to Mexico.
