SANTO DOMINGO.- The Chamber of Deputies converted into Law the project that declares the need to convene the National Assembly to modify the Constitution.
The piece was treated as urgent, which led the deputies to know it in two consecutive readings, although with the political opposition against it, which withdrew, in a unified manner, in the second work session.
The reasons for modifying the Constitution varied slightly with respect to the original project submitted by the Executive Branch.
Among the reasons cited are guaranteeing stability over time to the Constitutional text and especially to the current presidential election model, to prevent future modifications from affecting it, through the establishment of a system of locks and new general regulations.
Review the composition and powers of the National Council of the Judiciary.
Consolidate the constitutional autonomy of the Public Ministry, specialize its functions, establish a new form of designation and add requirements to be Attorney General of the Republic.
Unify the holding of presidential, congressional, municipal and other elective representative elections, as well as the inauguration of election officials on the same dates.
Review the composition and form of distribution of the Chamber of Deputies.
Create the Office of the Attorney General of the Public Administration as a dependency of the Executive Branch.
Articles 81, 166, 167, 169, 171, 178, 179, 209, 268, 274 will be modified as an additional general provision as article 278.
Once this Law is published, the National Assembly has a period of fifteen days to meet and learn about it.
