The Government refines aspects with actors from the public and private educational sector to create a transition commission for the merger process of the Ministries of Education (Minerd) and Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt) to evaluate and study the plans and structures, the Minister of Public Administration (MAP), Sigmund Freund, reported today.
The official announced that in the coming days a decree and a bill will be issued to update the General Education Law, and that to do so they are working with the actors in the education sector.
Take advantage of fusion
The official announced that the merger process has been used to structure a new Ministry of Education that is in line with the current reality.
“What we want is to refine some aspects with important actors from Minerd and Mescyt, to create a transition commission that includes other actors from the educational sector to evaluate and study the plans and structures,” he emphasized.
Government pays poorly
Freund recognized that the public administration and the Government have had difficulties in retaining trained personnel in the area of technology, computing and related sciences, due to the demand in the private sector offering better salary conditions.

“Any young person is hired by an international company and working from home, paying them double what they can earn in the public administration,” he explained.
Strengthen ITLA
He considered that ITLA must be further strengthened in order to create a link so that all those young people who travel to train abroad, with scholarships from the Dominican Government, have a commitment to use that knowledge in public administration.
Interviewed this morning on the Uno+Uno program, which is broadcast on Teleantillas, channel 2, the official admitted that the public sector is poorly paid, which prevents it from attracting trained human resources, which is why he advocates for the honesty of salaries in the public sector.
Reforms
Freund explained that the Government has focused on updating public administration, eliminating and merging institutions that fulfilled their mission, such as the Dominican Corporation of State Electrical Companies (CDEEE), the Rural Electrification Unit, and the State Council. del Azúcar, which had become a kind of real estate agency, irregularly delivering state land to individuals.
He pointed out that another of the companies eliminated was the Office of Supervising Engineers of State Works (Oisoe), where buildings were assigned capriciously by provisions of the President of the day and where irregularities were reported.
“The President proposes a society more in line with what society demands and the size of the Dominican Republic itself, and we have already begun some deeper transformations,” he added.
He explained that the transformations carried out by the government will impact 21 institutions, with eliminations, mergers and changes in the jurisdiction of powers.
Around 10 other institutions have also been eliminated, such as Monte de Piedad, among others.
