- Vice Minister of Production Agriculture Eulalio Ramírez highlights contributions from the sector at the fair
Jima Abajo, La Vega.- With a display of the best varieties of the flagship cereal and main ingredient of the basic basket consumed by the Dominican Republic, the Third Version of the Rice Fair in this region was inaugurated.
When opening the activity that took place for several days, the Vice Minister of Production and Marketing of the Ministry of Agriculture, Eulalio Ramírez, indicated that this activity shows the best of the production of the 21 provinces where the cereal is grown.
Ramírez pointed out that the sector rice cooker It constitutes one of the most representative areas of the agricultural production field, since it has more than 30 thousand producers, creating more than 80 thousand direct jobs and more than 50 thousand indirect jobs.
In addition, more than one million five hundred thousand tasks are cultivated divided into two crops, which represents more than three million productive tasks of the most important and most consumed item in the Dominican diet.
He said that currently one of the best harvests is expected, with a productivity that will exceed more than 14 million quintals, since at the end of August around 9.7 million quintals had been collected, with more than one million 200 thousand tasks left to be harvested.
This year’s Fair was dedicated to Senator Rogelio Genao of the La Vega province.
