The President of the Republic, Iván Duque, ratified this Tuesday the changes in the Solidarity Income program that will come into effect from next March. Among them, the president announced an increase in the monthly amount received by beneficiary households.

“Today we share with Colombia another important decision in terms of social policy: one million more beneficiaries in Solidarity Income starting in March, an increase from $160,000 to $190,000 in money transfers and, additionally (the increase), it is concentrating on that million of the most vulnerable people who are part of the selection mechanism for people in extreme poverty”, the president said.
As highlighted by the National Planning Department, led by Alejandra Botero, the program will have an increase of 18%, for the remaining payments of this semester. Likewise, the president indicated that “As of July, the amounts for Colombian families will also be increased based on the Sisbén beneficiary selection mechanism (System for the Identification of Potential Beneficiaries of Social Programs) and, additionally, it will be increased according to the number of family members.

With the increase, linked households will receive $380,000 every two months (equivalent to 190,000 pesos per month): one in March and the other in May. In addition, as the government had announced, among the measures that are planned to control inflation is the increase in the beneficiaries of the program, which will cover 3 million families to 4 million households.
