Andrés Hurtado speaks at a preventive detention hearing: "I want to face the trial in freedom"

Andres Hurtado took the floor during the hearing where the request for preventive detention requested by the Prosecutor’s Office and expressed his desire to face the “trial” in freedom. To support his request, he reported that he has a nine-year-old daughter who is under his care and who depends on him financially.

“I would like, with the respect that you deserve, to face a fair trial in freedom because I have a nine-year-old girl and I am going to keep the school confidential because it is not a common school. When I call common it is not because it is from any hierarchy, but to safeguard the children who are in that school,” he said.

Likewise, the television presenter assured that he never had any intention of fleeing the country because he always takes his youngest daughter to school and, in addition, he has work roots. “(Elopement) has never crossed my mind, not even for a second, because I currently have a job as a public relations manager. (…) I have an apartment in Surco, which is where my daughter lives, to be closer and to be able to take her to school as I always have for nine years,” he said.

Before that, Chibolin highlighted the social work he has done in his program ‘Saturday with Andrés‘. “Let me tell you something, I have had a Saturday with Andrés for 10 years. Three weeks ago I completed 10 years of work. When I retired I told the country that I was going to retire for two weeks to fix my issue. In 33 years of career, this “It’s the first time I’ve been involved in a serious issue,” he noted.

This is how the preventive detention hearing unfolded

For its part, Elio Riera, Andrés Hurtado’s lawyerrefuted the three facts of the investigation against his client. According to the lawyer, There are no strong suspicions, except for a newspaper report about the confession of Ana Siucho, who is considered only as a reference witness.

For the television host’s lawyer, there are no elements to support the accusation regarding the amounts of money that Andrés Hurtado would have received, according to statements by Iván Siucho: “With these arguments, to put a person in jail while he is being investigated, It’s disproportionate,” he added.

In this context, he requested that the request for 18 months of preventive detention against the former television host. Elio Riera asked Judge Checkley to impose a less serious measure because there is no strong suspicion against his client.

After the Prosecutor’s Office explained the reasons why they maintain that Andrés Hurtado does not have work or home roots, Hurtado’s defense spoke out and described them as ‘lies’. However, Judge Juan Carlos Checkley asked the lawyer not to use qualifiers to express himself about the arguments of the tax thesis.
