Hermosillo, Son., Parents of the 49 children who died and more than 100 injured in the ABC Daycare fire considered an achievement the decree published by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which grants a lifetime pension to the parents of the minors who died and extends benefits to those injured and affected by smoke inhalation during the incident that occurred on June 5, 2009.

The decree establishes a guaranteed pension under article 170 of the Social Security Law, eliminates the barriers that limited access to that support and withdraws the padlocks so that all victims, including survivors and their families, access the rights that mothers already hadcommented Julia Escalante, mother of Fátima Sofía, one of the little girls who perished.

Includes all children injured or who inhaled smoke during the fire. It also includes teachers and adults who suffered permanent lacerations and extends the benefits to those who today, upon turning 18, cannot support themselves due to the physical and psychological consequences of the disaster.

I was pleasantly surprised that (López Obrador) culminated with the signing of the decree, it is a work that has been done with the IMSS and that ends with the support of Governor Alfonso Durazo; He is the first governor who has been more sensitive to the issueEscalante noted.

Another important point of the decree is the exemption from paying for electricity to the victims’ homes, a benefit that extends to permanently injured children and adults, as well as those who inhaled smoke or toxins.

In a state like Sonora, where temperatures often exceed 45 degrees Celsius, this support is crucial, especially for burn victims who require special care and constant use of medical equipment in their homes.
