Spain reported that the identity of two detainees was confirmed by Venezuela

José Manuel Albares affirmed that Spain will provide diplomatic and consular assistance to the two Iberian citizens detained in Venezuela

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, José Manuel Albares, assured this Monday, September 30, that the identity of the two Spanish citizens detained in recent days in Delta Amacuro was confirmed by the Venezuelan authorities, after several weeks of requests to the administration of Nicolás Maduro to do it.

This was stated by Albares in an interview given to Catalunya Ràdio, where he indicated that the charges for which they are accused were also confirmed and, in that sense, he announced that consular and diplomatic protection will be exercised over these two people so that they can return to their families as soon as possible.

He stressed that José María Basoa Valdovinos and Andrés Martínez Adasme have nothing to do with any public organization in Spain or with the intelligence of that country, which is the National Information Center. However, he stressed that the Foreign Ministry of the Iberian country must work with “calm” and in favor of the “privacy” of the detainees; This is in response to the question to reveal the charges against these two people.

He said that this is not the first time that he has experienced a situation like this since he has been minister in Spain, remembering cases such as that of Juana Ruiz, detained in Israel, and that of Santiago Sánchez Cogedor and Ana Baneira, who were detained in Iran.

“In all these cases everything was resolved happily and I will certainly not spare any effort to ensure that this is exactly the same situation as soon as possible,” the Foreign Minister concluded.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, José Manuel Albares, spoke on Thursday September 26 with the vice chancellor for Europe, Ránder Peña, in order to request access to the two Spanish citizens detained in Venezuela who are linked to alleged actions that would generate chaos in the country.

Albares, who traveled to New York within the framework of the 79th UN General Assembly, demanded that Peña that Nicolás Maduro’s administration report the exact whereabouts of the Spaniards José María Basoa and Andrés Martínez Adasme, and that he communicate exactly the charges that they are accused of, reported EFE.

Andrés Martínez Adasme and José María Basoa Valdovinos, 32 and 35 years old, respectively, from the Basque town of Bilbao, were arrested in Venezuela for their alleged connection with an alleged destabilizing operation against their Government, according to what the authorities have said, even until They were branded terrorists by President Nicolás Maduro; as indicated in mid-September by the Minister of the Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello.
