Eight people died in an Air Force helicopter accident in Vichada

In the morning hours of this Sunday, September 29, the accident of a Colombian Air Force (FAC) helicopter was reported in the municipality of Cumaribo, Vichada. As reported by the entity, The aircraft was carrying out an aeromedical evacuation mission.

Once the incident was made known, the FAC activated search and rescue protocols to find the location of the helicopter and its crew in the area. So far it is known that the accident left eight people dead.

The entity has also indicated that the damaged aircraft was found in the Garabato village, in the municipality of Cumaribo, through the use of electro-optical systems. In the inspection it was determined that “there are no survivors.”

The victims of the accident were: Captain Julián Perilla Pinto, Second Lieutenant Édgar Durán Villareal; second coach Jhonattan Caro Rincón; the third technician Liceth Duarte Barbosa, the fourth technicians Karel Rojas Núñez, María Gutiérrez Bolívar Ana María and María González Ramírez María and the fourth technician Luis Montoya Ospina.

In this regard, the FAC reported that “The families of the crew members on board the aircraft are being accompanied by professionals from the mobile family intervention teams that the Air Force has, to receive accompaniment and support, while the rescue efforts are carried out.”

For his part, President Gustavo Petro spoke on his X account to send a message of condolences to the families of the victims.

“I regret to report the death of 8 members of the Air Force who were traveling on a humanitarian mission in the department of Vichada, their helicopter crashed to the ground. A hug of solidarity to their families in the midst of this news that mourns the country”wrote the head of state.
