Santo Domingo.- Carlos Amarante Baretrecently expelled from Dominican Liberation Party, This being an active member of the Political Committee and of Central Committee of that Party, rumors had been heard about his possible resignation from the organization due to his disagreement with the internal management in the last months.
In some statements recent of a group of members of that political organization, in which Baret was the spokesperson, highlighted the need for a radical 180-degree change so that the PLD become a viable option again in future elections, underscoring the urgency for party leaders to recognize the serious situation facing the institution.
Amarante Baret, in the document he read, demanded that Danilo Medina not continue leading the PLD as president, this being the first point of his request.
«We support President Danilo Medina’s decision to no longer lead the organization, as he promised on May 27. It is essential that it receives the necessary support and that its leadership assumes the role that the situation demands,” said Baret when reading a document supported by dozens of party members.
The signatories also insisted on their desire for a PLD that connects with society, establishing close ties with civil society organized at the national level, and that resumes work methods based on permanent criticism and self-criticism.
“The party must be fully aware that it must assume a responsible opposition role, defending the prosperity of the people, full democracy and social justice,” the document stated..
In addition, the PLD members requested support for the decision of the general secretary, Charlie Mariotti, not to aspire to continue in his position.
