Maduro’s government adds Tiktok to the list of blocked social networks

This Saturday, September 28, both the Tiktok application and website were blocked in Venezuela by several service providers


The government of Nicolás Maduro blocked TikTok this Saturday, September 28, adding a new social network to those already blocked in the country, such as X, formerly Twitter.

The information was released by the organization Ve Sin Filtro, which monitors Internet services and rights in the country. The population must use tools such as VPN to access blocked news portals, as well as social networks.

On August 8, Maduro ordered to block X for 10 daysbut the measure was extended to date. The announcement came amid protests against the results of the presidential elections of July 28, since then repression has increased in the country, as well as censorship on social networks and news portals. On July 22 alone, six information portals were blocked.

Ve Sin Filtro estimates that there are about 100 restricted pages in Venezuela, most of the domains belong to media outlets.
