Botafogo was nothing more than a goalless draw with Grêmio, on Saturday night (28) at the Mané Garrincha stadium, in Brasília, and allowed Palmeiras (who beat Atlético-MG 2-1) to stay just one point behind in the classification of the Brazilian Series A Championship.
After the end of the match broadcast live on National Radio This Saturday, Alvinegro de General Severiano reached 57 points, remaining isolated at the top of the table. For Grêmio, the draw meant moving up to 11th place with 32 points.
In the match played in Brasília, the team led by Portuguese coach Artur Jorge even overcame goalkeeper Marchesín with defender Bastos in the 40th minute of the second half, but the move was canceled after the Angolan player was found to be in an irregular position.
This result was especially favorable for Palmeiras, who defeated Atlético-MG 2-1 at the Brinco de Ouro stadium, in Campinas, to reach 56 points in second place in the standings. Galo remained with 36 points, in 9th place, after the setback.
Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira’s team won thanks to two goals from a penalty kick by midfielder Raphael Veiga, while striker Hulk, with a beautiful free kick, scored Galo’s honor.
