La Vega. – President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Saturday the rebuilt La Vega Municipal Market, after it was destroyed by a fire on May 29, 2016, affecting hundreds of sellers of various agricultural, livestock and processed products.
Located in the center of the city, the reconstruction of its facilities was paralyzed for four years, being resumed in 2020 during the first government administration of President Abinader, who declared it as a priority.
Upon his arrival, the head of state took a tour of the work, the completion of which injects jobs and dynamism into the local economy and its investment exceeds 485 million pesos.

The Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascención, described it as a modern and very important infrastructure so that hundreds of families can purchase basic and essential products, such as meat, groceries or vegetables, in hygienic, sanitary conditions and without suburbanization.
In this space, he said, sellers and suppliers will be able to do their work in better conditions, with the dignity that is required, but above all, the population will be able to purchase good quality products.
He added that with these works they continue the purpose of continuing to bring about the promised change.

Alquímedes Andujar, representing the workers, heartily thanked the president because he gave them priority when they no longer had hope and overcoming the setbacks, today they are inaugurating the new market facilities, so that the merchants can survive over time.
“We know that we have to make good use of the facilities that are given to us today to provide a good service to the vegan society.”
New market
The work included the construction of a new two-story building, the renovation of a warehouse and the reconstruction of the main structure.
It has three blocks for more than 300 sales positions, 67 parking spaces for light vehicles, with spaces also for motorcycles and people with disabilities; as well as a loading and unloading area with parking.
Governor Luisa Altagracia Jiménez was present; Senator Ramón Rogelio Genao; interim mayor Joel Martínez; the deputies Agustín Burgos, Carolin Mercedes, Gabriela María Santos; the parish priest of the Sagrada Familia church, Dionis Durán, among others.
