Petro pointed out that if the tax bill is not approved, subsidies will be cut for rich sectors

In the midst of tensions between the Casa de Nariño and Congress due to the lack of consensus regarding the amount of the National Budget for 2025President Gustavo Petro issued a warning to the Legislature regarding the effects that failure to approve the Financing Law would have.

Through his X account, the head of state indicated that “If the 2025 budget has to be cut because Congress does not approve the Financing Law, then all subsidies to the rich sectors of the population will be cut.”

The president added that “The people do not pay Duque’s over-indebtedness.”

President Petro’s statements come after the president of the Senate, Efraín Cepeda, pointed out the need to cut the amount planned for next year.

Cepeda also mentioned that if the scenario arises in which the General Budget of the Nation (PNG) is adopted via decreeit would only be showing the low capacity of the Government to reach an agreement.
