Collado indicated that last month 137,753 cruise passengers arrived in the country, with the port of Amber Cove being the one with the greatest flow.
In eight months, the Dominican Republic has received 7 million 781 thousand 690 visitors by air and cruises, which represents an increase in visits of 10%, compared to the same period last year.
According to statistics offered yesterday by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), last August the country received 675,196 non-residents, which, when added to the arrivals by air from previous months, results in the number of 5,691,488 visitors.
“This figure represents an increase of 8%, compared to 2023,” said Minister David Collado.
Regarding cruise passenger arrivals, Collado indicated that last month 137,753 arrived in the country, with the port of Amber Cove being the one with the greatest flow, with 58% of the arrivals.
In eight months, 1 million 820 thousand 202 cruise passengers have arrived in the Dominican Republic through different ports.
“If we add the 5 million 961 thousand 488 visits by air, plus the 1 million 820 thousand 202 via cruise ships, we have that from January to August the Dominican Republic has received 7,781,690 visitors,” said Collado.
He highlighted that commercial flights were reduced last month compared to August 2023, but that flight occupancy was higher.
In August of this year there were 5,401 commercial flights, while last year there were 5,765, which represented -6%.
The Punta Cana airport continues to be the one with the highest flow of arrivals, with 44% of arrivals in August, followed by Las Américas, which had 34%.
They are followed by Puerto Plata airports with 3% and Isabela with the same percentage.
