Cap Cana. – Doctors now see more brain tumors due to the diagnostic tools available, which allow more and more cases to be detected.
Cases of brain tumors have been increasing and do not respect age, some of which are malignant and take a direct path to death.
This was stated by the neurosurgeon Pedro Pablo Díaz, who pointed out that there are no statistics on the subject that build on the real picture of these health events.
The past president of the Dominican Society of Neurology and Neurosurgery He maintained that the cases have been detected in the child and adult population.
The manager of the Neurosurgery Service of the Plaza de la Salud General Hospital said that diagnostic tools now allow more brain tumors to be detected than in the past.
When presenting cases presented at that health center, he reported that the main tumors that occur are brain tumors within the brain and those produced in the tissue.

Díaz, with specialized studies in France, said that those that emerge from brain tissue can be benign and even highly malignant, called grade 4 gliomas, which he considered true brain cancers.
He maintained that tumors of the brain envelope have observed a significant increase in metastasis.
“There has been an increase in recent years, not because there are more tumors, but because we have more diagnostic facilities with the increase in diagnostic means, such as tomography, magnetic resonance and angiographic studies,” he said.
He stated that tumors have been detected in congenital neonates, which are children born with brain tumors, even those that manifest in the last stage of life.
He added that some risk factors are unknown and others come from disorders in chromosomes and genetics, as well as those associated with lifestyle, such as poor diet and smoking.
Dr. Díaz spoke during the XXXII International Congress of the Dominican Society of Neurology and Neurosurgery, leading the presentation of cases of tumors treated at Hospital General Plaza de la Salud.
The scientific event, dedicated to the late Dr. José Silié, addresses advances in neuroscience, innovative techniques, headaches, epilepsies, vascular disorders and tumors, among others.
It is chaired by Dr. Cristian López, president of the specialized society, who said that the congress will update specialists on the latest procedures, medications and diagnostic tools.
He added that updating scientific knowledge will impact better treatments and cures for patients.
