Civil Defense and the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat confirmed the death of a 47-year-old worker at Fazenda Monte Alegre, in the municipality of Neves Paulista, in the northwest of São Paulo, hit by a fire. The man had been wanted since Thursday afternoon (26), when he disappeared while trying to drive cattle from the property to a safe area.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that the Fire Department was called to help fight the fire, which spread to neighboring properties, mobilizing units from Mirassol and São José do Rio Preto, also in the northwest region.
The Criminalistics Institute carried out the examination on site and the Legal Medical Institute (IML) will carry out the necroscopic examination on the victim, with no confirmed date yet. The case was registered at the Neves Paulista Police Station as a suspicious death and fire.
Also this Thursday, two firefighters were hit while fighting a fire on a plantation in the municipality of Corumbataí. One of them died at the scene.
According to Civil Defense, the fire started on Wednesday (25), when it had already reached 1,200 hectares including pasture, sugarcane fields and Permanent Preservation Area (APP). In addition to the Fire Department, firefighters from the Moreno, Tietê and Cofco plants worked.
This Friday, 13 municipalities in São Paulo recorded fires. According to Civil Defense, there are still five municipalities with active fires in the state: in Bananal, Bom Jesus dos Perdões, Nazaré Paulista, Ipeúna and Jaú. The state employs one plane and two helicopters to fight the flames. The advance of a cold front contributes to the fight, but Civil Defense expects conditions to worsen and alert levels to increase from Sunday (29).
Parks
The Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics of the State of São Paulo announced that will reopen 69 of its 82 Conservation Units on Monday (30). State parks have been closed since September 1st for safety reasons and to direct teams to fight forest fires in the state. At least half of São Paulo’s territory remains in a state of alert or emergency, due to the drought.
According to a government statement, the decision was taken after a meeting of the Crisis Cabinet, which assessed improvements in the weather conditions expected for the next few days and the degree of risk of forest fires. The 13 conservation units that will remain closed will be re-evaluated from October 12th, as they are in regions that are not forecast for rain and have fires nearby.
The reopening is partial, with part of the visiting activities suspended or with different times, without ruling out the possibility of new closures.
