Lima Chamber of Commerce demands articulated measures from the Government "and not staged"

The Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) issued a statement this afternoon regarding the measures adopted by the government as part of a strategy to combat crime.

In this context, the institution maintained that the declaration of emergency in 14 districts of Lima and Callao “is not enough”, and added that the measure must be accompanied by “concrete and articulated actions with regional and local authorities to deploy a frontal fight against organized crime, criminal gangs and the crime that afflicts our country.

The Lima Chamber of Commerce specified that although the creation of the criminal figure of urban terrorism may be favorable, it is not enough to immediately reduce and control the overflow of crime.

“We welcome the creation of the Operational Group for Immediate Response to Extortion (Gorex), but in the face of the uncontrolled increase in crime, the country does not need the photo of the troops to be exposed but rather the result of their actions, and that is achieved with work in the streets. Names, labels and staging are not going to restore the peace that the population requires,” he indicated.

The document also contains a series of proposals such as declaring a state of emergency for the National Police to provide it with the infrastructure, equipment and logistical and operational resources necessary to fight crime.

Likewise, it proposes to “incorporate Intelligence and investigation agents with extensive experience who are in retirement and take control of the 120 vulnerable areas of the country that are duly identified through joint actions between the National Police and the Armed Forces.” , to which must be added the articulation of their respective Intelligence offices through an integrated system dedicated to the fight against crime.”

Finally, the CCL suggests reducing the date of police personnel deficit, remembering that around 50,000 new police personnel are currently required.
