The kick-off of the 2022 edition of the Copa do Brasil will be at 16:30 (Brasilia time) this Tuesday (22), in Sergipe. The first two teams of the 80 to enter the field for the first phase of the competition will be Lagarto-SE and Figueirense Futebol Clube-SC. at the Barretão stadium, in the city of Lagarto (SE). Until March 3, there will be 37 more clashes in the first phase, with definition of the classified in a single game. In the event of a tie, the visiting teams advance (better placed in the national ranking of clubs).
The knockout competition, considered the most democratic for bringing together teams from different divisions of Brazilian football, guarantees a spot in the 2023 edition of the group stage of the Copa Libertadores da América. In addition to the 80 teams that start the competition – among them Cruzeiro, São Paulo, Vasco, Grêmio and Santos – from the third phase onwards, the dispute is even more fierce with the entry of 12 great clubs: América-MG, Athletico Paranaense, Atlético Mineiro , Bahia, Botafogo, Bragantino, Corinthians, Flamengo, Fluminense, Fortaleza, Palmeiras and Remo. They guaranteed their presence in the third stage for their performance in competitions last year.
The award for each stage overcome in the Copa do Brasil is an added attraction. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) increased the value of the final prize to BRL 60 million (in 2021 it was BRL 56 million), but the amounts accumulated throughout the competition can reach BRL 80 million for the winning team.
The 40 teams classified in the second phase of the Copa do Brasil will compete for 20 spots, also in a single game and with the visiting team taking advantage of the tie to qualify.
