Argentina calls on the ILO to protect the most vulnerable

During his speech, Fernández described it as essential that international credits do not condition development processes in terms of growth, equity and social justice, pointing out that only in this way can policies aimed at tangible realities be specified, which has been called the “employment accelerator”. ».

At another point in his presentation, he referred to the negotiation that his country is carrying out with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to refinance the outstanding debt borrowed in 2018 by his predecessor, Mauricio Macri, consisting of 45 billion dollars.

In this regard, he pointed out that during the conversations with the Fund, they have preserved the rights of workers and the most vulnerable groups, but also of productive capital, establishing the conditions for financial stability that promotes the tranquility of business and the necessary investments. to grow.

On the other hand, he stressed that the international financial architecture is what marks the imbalances and does not accompany the real economy, much less social justice. In the case of Argentina, he said, “it is in the process of negotiating its external debt and seeking balance redirected towards the spirit of the new normality.”

Fernández also called for the strengthening of policies against gender, educational, economic and social inequalities, which make objective 8 of the 2030 Agenda effective: inclusive and sustained economic growth to create decent employment for all and improve living standards.

“In this complex post-pandemic scenario, quality work must be positioned at the center of economic, productive, financial and commercial policies,” the dignitary remarked.

Among various actions, he advocated creating at least 400 million new jobs, mainly in green and care economies, expanding social protection floors to 50 percent of people who lack them, and extending the action climate change for jobs in order to accelerate progress towards a carbon-neutral global economy.
