Court sends baseball player Wander Franco to trial

Tribunal envía a juicio de fondo al pelotero Wander Franco

SANTO DOMINGO.-The Investigative Court of the judicial district of Puerto Plata issued an order to open a trial against the player Wander Franco, for abuse of a teenager and against her mother, for sexual exploitation and money laundering.

The decision was made this Thursday by Judge Pascual Francisco Valenzuela, who maintained, for both defendants, the coercive measure consisting of periodic presentations.

Prosecutors Claudio Cordero, from the Specialized Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Prosecutor’s Office, and José Martínez Montán, from the Puerto Plata Prosecutor’s Office, highlighted the solidity of the accusation presented by the Public Ministry, which they point out was evaluated by Judge Francisco Valenzuela to send the accused to trial.

“We understand that it is a firm accusation and the court understood it that way. The evidence presented by the Public Ministry closely links the accused with the typology described in the accusation,” Cordero explained.
