Saime forces Venezuelans in countries without consulates to withdraw passports in Caracas

Saime indicated that all changes in documentation inside and outside the country are made through the organization’s portal. Venezuelans outside the country, if they made procedures with passports in consulates where the legation was closed, must come to Plaza Caracas to pick them up.

The Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Immigration (Saime) reported on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 25, that those Venezuelans who live abroad, specifically in countries where there is no consular representation – due to the closure of the same due to the breakdown of relations – must return to Venezuela and pick up their passports at the main offices of the institution.

This was indicated by Saime in social networks, where he responded to a report -allegedly false- in which it was said that a diplomatic bag was leaving -the first of two times a month- with passports for countries such as Peru, Argentina, Chile and Ecuador; nations with which the administration of Nicolás Maduro broke relations after criticism from those governments regarding the elections of July 28.

In this regard, he recalled that he does not send emails with this type of information, since all procedures must be done through the institution’s portal.

Following the July 28 elections, the Maduro administration broke diplomatic relations with several nations, withdrawing all diplomatic officials and leaving its citizens adrift. It is not yet known whether a third country assumed representation on behalf of Venezuela in nations such as the United States, Chile, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Argentina, Costa Rica, among others.

What people do is go to consulates in nearby countries where there are consulates to carry out the procedures.

In it month of FebruarySaime announced that users can now update their email addresses in all of its offices nationwide.

This news has been eagerly awaited by users who, for various reasons, had not been able to update their email address through the agency’s website. On previous occasions, when they went to the regional offices, officials told them that it was only possible to make this change at the main office in Caracas.

“There are more than 100 Saime offices across the country, where Venezuelans and foreigners can change their email address with the collaboration of the agency’s public servants,” the agency reported on its social media.
