“The Brazilian government has learned, with deep regret, of the death, in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, of the Brazilian teenager Ali Kamal Abdallah, 15 years old, born in Foz do Iguaçu. The minor and his father, a Paraguayan national, were hit by an explosion as a result of intense Israeli aerial bombardments in the region on Monday. The Brazilian Embassy in Beirut is providing assistance to the minor’s family. The teenager’s father also died as a result of the explosion.”

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry also reiterated its condemnation of the Israeli attacks against civilians in Lebanon. “In solidarity with the family, the Brazilian Government reiterates its condemnation, in the strongest terms, of the continued Israeli airstrikes against densely populated civilian areas in Lebanon and renews its call on the parties involved to immediately cease hostilities.”

Lula

Shortly before Abdallah’s death, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had already positioned itself against the attacks in Lebanese territory. “It is important to remember that in Lebanon the total number of deaths is 620 people. It is the highest number of deaths since the civil war that lasted between 1975 and 1990. It is also important to remember that 94 women and 50 children died, 2,058 people were injured and 10,000 people were forced to retreat and empty their homes,” said the president yesterday (25), at a press conference at the United Nations Headquarters.
