Andrés Hurtado case: Prosecutor Elizabeth Peralta is prohibited from leaving the country for 15 days

The Judiciary has decided to extend the order prohibiting prosecutor Elizabeth Peralta Santur from leaving the country for 15 days, which will run until Wednesday, October 9, 2024. The suspended official is being investigated by the Second Specialized Supreme Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Committed by Public Officials for alleged acts of corruption involving Augusto Javier Miu Lei, Iván Siucho Neira, and television host Andrés Hurtado.

According to reports, the court decision was taken on Wednesday, September 25. Meanwhile, the measure prohibiting people from leaving the country was in effect since September 9 and with the 15-day extension it will be extended until Wednesday, October 9.

As we recall, the initial charges were against prosecutor Elizabeth Peralta, Andrés Hurtado, Augusto Javier Miu Lei and Iván Siucho Neira. The four people involved are under investigation for alleged crimes of aggravated influence peddling and specific active bribery.

The ongoing investigation against Andrés Hurtado and prosecutor Elizabeth Peralta stems from alleged charges of influence peddling and bribery, specifically related to facilitating the seizure of 100 kg of gold, which had been seized by authorities on suspicion of being of illicit origin.

The investigations were strengthened by the statements of Ana Siucho Neira, wife of soccer player Edison Flores, who accused Hurtado of having received a bribe of 1 million dollars for his participation in this operation. These accusations are also linked to the activities of prosecutor Peralta, who would have been part of the negotiation.

This measure was adopted despite the fact that the prosecutor voluntarily handed over the passports in order to demonstrate to the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary that there was no intention to flee, as reported by her lawyer Benji Espinoza, who described this gesture as “an unequivocal sign of cooperation with justice.” One of the documents had already expired and the other was about to expire.

Elizabeth Peralta remains silent in the Prosecutor’s Office

Last Tuesday, the 24th, the suspended prosecutor Luz Peralta Santur appeared before the Second Transitory Supreme Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Crimes Committed by Public Officials to give her statement in the framework of the investigation into the Andrés Hurtado case.

However, during her presentation before the Public Prosecutor’s Office, she chose to exercise her right to remain silent. The hearing was conducted by provincial prosecutor Juan José Castillo Nieto, who attempted to question her about her involvement in crimes of influence peddling and specific passive bribery to the detriment of the State.

“The Second Specialized Supreme Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Committed by Public Officials receives the statement of Luz Elizabeth Peralta Santur, investigated for the alleged crimes of influence peddling and specific passive bribery to the detriment of the State,” the Ministry reported on social media.
