Public Prosecutor’s Office clarifies that salaries have not been withheld from prosecutors subjected to disciplinary proceedings

MP se apresta a firmar otros 9 acuerdos para reforzar acusación

The Public Prosecutor’s Office clarified that this is a measure to standardize and make internal protocols more transparent.

Santo Domingo (DR) Wednesday, September 25, 2024. The Public Prosecutor’s Office clarified on Wednesday that the salaries of prosecutors subjected to disciplinary proceedings have not been withheld, as erroneously reported in some media outlets. It also emphasized that the corresponding payments have been made without incident.

The prosecutor’s office also clarified that, due to a measure of standardization and transparency of internal protocols, starting this September, suspended prosecutors, as well as technical and administrative staff with the same condition, must receive their salaries through checks.

The General Administrative Directorate of the Public Prosecutor’s Office revealed that the checks corresponding to these salaries have been available for withdrawal since last Friday, September 20 of this year, and part of the staff under this measure has already withdrawn their payment without major inconveniences.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office regretted the inconvenience that this measure may have caused to those involved, while reiterating respect for the rights of all those under investigation.

However, they acknowledged that some disciplinary proceedings have been affected by bad practices and incidents promoted by those under investigation. Some of the suspended prosecutors are even out of the country and hinder the conduct of the disciplinary proceedings. For this reason, the institution called for procedural loyalty to allow these disciplinary proceedings to be conducted effectively.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office invites the country’s various associations of prosecutors to collaborate with internal improvements that guarantee more agile disciplinary processes that are in accordance with the nature of the disciplinary procedure, with the necessary review of internal regulations, to ensure legitimacy in disciplinary control, thus avoiding dilatory behavior and greater responsibility with the public treasury.

Finally, the institution reported that the measure of payment through checks did not require consultation with the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, according to the Organic Law of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
