Where are there free and low-cost veterinary clinics in CDMX?

Mexico City offers some free or affordable veterinary service options so that people with pets can take them and take care of their health.

Here are some of them:

Veterinarian at Pushkin Garden

The Cuauhtémoc municipality offers free veterinary services at the Pushkin Garden located between Cuauhtémoc Avenue and Álvaro Obregón Avenue. It also offers bathing and beauty services and has a unit in case a surgical intervention is required.

Tlalpan Veterinary Clinic

This clinic It offers some free services such as sterilization of dogs and cats, but requires making an appointment for clinical evaluation, and meeting the following requirements:

  • Copy of voter ID of the guardian or person responsible (per patient).
  • Eight hours of fasting from water and food.
  • Patients older than 5 months of age.
  • Clinically healthy (no vomiting, diarrhea, good weight and no obvious injuries).
  • Dogs with collar and chain (muzzle in case of aggressiveness).
  • Cats in carrier or mesh bag.
  • Clean if possible.
  • With a blanket.
  • “Flat” patients (bulldogs, pugs, shit-zus, Persian cats, among others) are not accepted.

It also provides other services at a cost such as deworming, surgeries, multiple vaccinations or radiological studies.

Animal Health Care Center / Irene Joice Blank Hamer Veterinary Clinic

It is located inside the Youth Park, in the Álvaro Obregón municipality, on Calle Sur 118, corner with Calle 4, Col. Tolteca, Alc. Álvaro Obregón, 01150 CDMX. It offers general consultation, deworming and sterilization for free.

You can go there from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., or on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Mexico City Veterinary Hospital

This hospital It is located on Avenida General Carlos L. Grácida s/n, almost on the corner of Eje 6 Sur, Colonia Santa Cruz Meyehualco, Iztapalapa Municipality; it offers various veterinary services at affordable prices.

Attention is provided through limited forms, which are given out in the following shifts:

Monday to Friday
Morning shift from 6:30 to 11:00 hrs.
Afternoon shift from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Limited capacity to 80 tokens

Weekends
Only schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Limited capacity to 15 tokens

Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; weekends and holidays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. respectively.

Diagnostic services are only available from Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. To access the service, the following requirements must be met:

  • Be of legal age and present the original and a copy of the Official Identification of the patient’s guardian or responsible person (INE, Driver’s License, Passport, INAPAM)
  • Have the Single Registry of Companion Animals (RUAC).
  • Only the patient’s guardian or responsible party will be allowed access, and minors are advised not to enter.

It is mandatory:

  • The use of a collar and leash for the entry of canines.
  • The use of a muzzle on aggressive or reactive animals, as well as reporting it to medical personnel.
  • For felines, the use of a suitable carrier or container is required.
  • Guardians or those responsible for patients must bring bags or items that allow the collection of feces, as well as a container with water and vinegar to dilute the patients’ urine.

This UNAM hospital is located within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry in the Outer Circuit of Ciudad Universitaria, Coyoacán Delegation, Mexico City, CP 04510.
