This morning, the Federal Police are executing 141 search and seizure warrants, in all units of the federation, against suspects of storing and sharing child and adolescent sexual abuse material.
Operation Terabyte involves the work of more than 750 police officers, including federal and civilian personnel. In addition, the Federal Police had the support of the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agency of the United States Embassy.
The operation seeks to identify and arrest criminals across the country who act mainly on the internet with the intention of storing and sharing sexual abuse material against children and adolescents.
The name of the operation – Terabyte – was chosen because “terabyte” is the name given to the cyber data storage unit and is equivalent to 1,000 (one thousand) gigabytes. The operation aims to investigate, primarily, individuals who have or traffic large amounts of child sexual abuse material.
According to the corporation, from December 2023 to August 2024, 1,291 arrest warrants for sexual abusers that were pending were served.
The Federal Police warns parents and guardians about the importance of monitoring and guiding their children in the virtual and physical world, protecting them from the risks of sexual abuse.
