From the coal mining area of Coahuila, the elected president, Claudia Sheinbaum, together with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, signed the agreement to continue the rescue of the remains of the miners trapped in the Pasta de Conchos and El Pinabete mines.

At an event held in the municipality of San Juan de Sabinas, Sheinbaum announced that in November, during the first weeks of her administration, she will return to the region to review the search and recovery plan and, if necessary, adapt it, as demanded by the victims’ families.

Secretary of the Interior, Luisa María Alcalde, recently appointed national president of Morena, detailed the three points of the commitment:

Continuity until the completion of the rescue works that are currently coordinated by the Federal Electricity Commission; the administration headed by Sheinbaum will ensure the necessary resources for the completion of the works.

The Mexican government, through the various departments and agencies designated by the future president, will maintain ongoing support and communication with the families.

Sheinbaum and López Obrador received three family members of each of the 65 workers who were trapped on February 19, 2006 in the Pasta de Conchos mine, after a collapse.

In what was his last visit to the area during his six-year term, the Tabasco native lamented that he did not have enough time to finish recovering the remains of the workers; only one of the 63 who were still trapped was rescued.

Yolanda Ramos Espinosa, mother of the miner Mario Alberto Ruiz Ramos, asked the president-elect to monitor That the salary of the workers who do the rescue work be decent and fair, because as a mother, I would not let my son work for 320 pesos a day without an emergency exit. and considered that Inspecting coal mines is insufficient, because 28 people have died during this six-year period..

Later, in the border city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador placed the remains of the revolutionary and anti-Porfirista Catarino Erasmo Garza Rodríguez in a niche, next to the bust and monument that the sculptor Pedro Reyes made in his memory, on the Puerta México bridge in Matamoros.

The president was accompanied by his wife, historian Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, and Claudia Sheinbaum.

López Obrador was received by the governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villarreal, who thanked him for his government having located the remains of the man from Matamoros and bringing them from Panama to his homeland.

At that event, Gutiérrez Müller read the letters that the revolutionary wrote to his wife.

Relatives make call

The Pasta de Conchos Family Organization called on the federal administration headed by Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to continue with the rescue efforts of the remains of the 62 miners who remain trapped after the mine explosion, always taking into account the requests and demands of the families.

Today, the President and the President-elect returned to the region and met with the families of both Pasta de Conchos and the El Pinabete mine. The President-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, signed an agreement in which she makes a commitment to continue with the rescue efforts, ensuring the necessary resources for this and maintaining support and communication with the families… We have insisted on the need for the State to adopt guarantees of non-repetition to ensure that no more people die in the coal mines. However, there has not been an adequate response and the number of mine inspections has been insufficient, while in this six-year term 28 workers have died, in most cases due to a lack of safety measures due to the failure of employers to comply with NOM-032..

However, they valued the commitment of the president-elect and reiterated the call for her to meet with the families once she takes office to share her demands. truth, justice, no repetition and continue with the rescue now.
