MADRID, Spain.- Amnesty International (AI) He launched a call the Cuban regime to immediately release Berta Soler, leader of the Ladies in White, who has been missing since her arbitrary detention on September 22. Through a post on its official X account (formerly Twitter), the organization directly questioned Cuban ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel about the activist’s whereabouts: “Miguel Díaz-Canel, where is Berta Soler?”

Berta Soler, a key figure in Cuba’s women’s opposition movement, was arrested by plainclothes officers as she left the Ladies in White National Headquarters. Her husband, former political prisoner Angel Moya, said authorities have not provided any information about her whereabouts, raising concerns about her safety. “I hold the Cuban communist regime and State Security responsible for Berta’s physical integrity,” Moya told reporters. CubaNet this Tuesday.

The Ladies in White, a group formed by relatives of political prisoners from the Black Spring of 2003, continue to be a constant target of harassment by Cuban authorities. Despite the threats, Berta Soler and other members of the movement continue to demand the release of political prisoners on the island. On September 15, Soler was temporarily detained and threatened that if he continued his protests, he would face “detention without return.”

Amnesty International has called for the immediate release of Soler and all detained activists, highlighting the movement’s unwavering resilience in the face of repression by the Díaz-Canel government. AI urged the international community to share its call to end the persecution of human rights defenders in Cuba.

In addition to Soler, five other Ladies in White remain imprisoned for their peaceful activism in defense of human rights: Sissi Abascal Zamora, Sayli Navarro Alvarez, Jacqueline Heredia Morales, Tania Echevarria Menendez and Aymara Nieto Munoz.
