Public Ministry avoids investigating tobacco companies

22Several Colorado deputies (government), Liberals and the multibancada, signed the accusatory libel against Sandra Quiñónez, Attorney General of the State. With this, it only remains to define the date on which it will be treated in the plenary session of the Lower House.

One of the relevant news that emerged around the signing was the addition of a tenth challenge to the nine that were already listed as arguments for impeachment.

These are around 12 to 14 Suspicious Operations Reports (STRs) that Seprelad sent to the Public Ministry in 2019. However, it is unknown that the cases have been opened. They are intelligence reports that describe money laundering schemes through exchange houses, tobacco companies and with the leading role of people who were recently mentioned by Arnaldo Giuzzio, Minister of the Interior.

CONTEXT
On February 3, Giuzzio denounced that Horacio Cartes, former President of the Republic, traffics cigarettes and launders money through his financial entities.

Yesterday morning, Monday, Seprelad confirmed that since 2019, the Public Ministry was aware of these complaints, however, it has not acted to date.

Sebastián Villarejo, National Deputy for Patria Querida (PPQ), said that they are going to expand the accusatory libel, since Seprelad answered the request for a report. This proves that Giuzzio’s complaints were already in the knowledge of the Public Ministry for two years.

“If one respects the institutions, one must realize that Quiñónez does not have the credibility to continue in office. The prosecution represents the company and if your client has doubts about your management, you should step aside. Institutions are bigger than people,” he expressed.

accusatory libel
At a press conference, Jazmín Narváez, Deputy for the ANR and leader of the ruling caucus, stated that the causes handled by all citizens are public knowledge.

“The truth is that in addition to crime, misdemeanors, corruption, the real cancer is impunity. The representation of society rests with the Public Ministry. We will be judged with dignity. The Public Ministry has lost objectivity, in addition to other complaints. Therefore, we decided to accompany as a bench”, he expressed.

Celso Kennedy, Deputy for bench “C” of the PLRA, said that this is the second time that the trial against Quiñónez has been raised.

“It becomes an emblematic case. At the present time, there is a coincidence on the political scene. Nobody talks about the efficiency of the management, not even the defenders of Quiñonez. The law is for everyone equally, but in reality for the rich and powerful it is one, and for the poor it is another, ”he commented.

Jorge Ávalos Mariño, Deputy for the “D” caucus of the PLRA, affirmed that they are convinced that the causes are compelling, and from now on they expect the accompaniment of their colleagues.
“We hope to have the votes and reach the trial in the Senate,” he said.

Antonio Buzarquis, National Deputy for the “D” bench of the PLRA, remembered Rodrigo Quintana, a young man who died after the assault by police forces on the party’s headquarters.

“Where are the defendants? Nothing was clarified. The other case is the Metrobús. she expressed her.
