Andrés Hurtado case: Minjus denies lack of public defenders during raid

.

The Ministry of Justice (Minjus) issued a statement regarding the court order to search the homes of Andrés Hurtado. This, after the Prosecutor’s Office had been waiting for hours for a public defender to arrive at the home of ‘Chibolín’ on the Cisneros boardwalk in Miraflores to begin the procedure.

In this regard, Minjus pointed out that so far no raid has been thwarted due to the lack of public defenders.

“It is important to reiterate that the presence of a lawyer is not necessary for the search to take place. The police and the prosecution can ensure that evidence is not lost and that those involved are arrested,” reads the Minjus statement.

The new organized crime law, promoted by Peru Libre and supported by Fuerza Popular, now requires the presence of public defenders to begin the search of a property with a search warrant.

According to sources from Peru21, the Public Defense of the Minjus was only notified of the need for a public defender at 4:18 p.m.
