Opposition leader Carlos Prosperi warned that the far right plans to swear in Edmundo González Urrutia as “president of Venezuela” on January 10 with the aim of continuing to benefit from the country’s resources.
“To benefit from the money that is under the protection of the Republic and of the Venezuelans that a small group has been stealing, and then have salaries of 3 thousand dollars, have assistants who charge 400 dollars and even fake people to keep that money,” he warned in an interview with a television station.
He also said that some political organizations are in talks with government authorities to participate in the “mega elections” scheduled for 2025, although he warned that “if the result is not in their favor, the same thing will happen” in reference to the lack of recognition of Venezuelan institutions and the accusations of electoral fraud that part of the opposition is recycling as a plan.
“There are already several political organizations building bridges with the Government, telling them that they will participate in the regional and municipal elections, in the elections for the National Assembly, that they will have candidates,” said Prosperi.
“What will happen? The same thing. The day the municipal, regional and National Assembly elections are scheduled, the next day they will say that the result is not in their favour, that there was electoral fraud,” he questioned.
