New York. – President Luis Abinader advocated this Monday, from the United Nations headquarters in New York, for continuing the fight against the climate crisis, as well as for accessibility to artificial intelligence, security, peace and international stability.
The president gave a speech at the Future Summit, within the framework of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
His words, he said, are made with the aim of countries seeking joint solutions that have a concrete impact on the lives of present and future generations, in order to redefine a more just, equitable and sustainable future.
“The first call of this summit must be to put aside what divides us and seek what unites us.”
On the climate crisis, he said that the decarbonisation of economies must be taken seriously and considered that the main greenhouse gas producing countries must contribute in proportion to their resources and their impact, prioritising green funds and regulations adopted on climate matters.
Artificial intelligence
In this regard, he considered that in order to fully exploit the potential of Artificial Intelligence, it must be accessible to all “within a framework of digital sovereignty and technological ethics, thus allowing the revolutionization of production, education, healthcare and environmental care while preventing it from becoming a tool of exploitation and exclusion.”
Peace and international stability
In addition, Abinader spoke on this stage about the fundamental objectives of international organizations, which are to safeguard international peace and stability, with the aim of preventing thousands of people around the world from suffering disproportionate and unjustified violence.
To this end, it is understood that incentives must be sought to prevent nations from violating the basic norms of coexistence and peaceful conflict resolution.
“We reaffirm once again the Dominican Republic’s unwavering commitment to renewed and effective multilateralism, and we call for international law to be respected and complied with so that all nations have effective means for their security,” concluded the head of state.
He added that this can only be achieved with the necessary resources to accelerate the construction of a new international financial architecture that guarantees the availability of resources for investment, development, well-being, environmental protection and climate resilience.
