Argentine Milei denounces the "ideological agenda" of the UN in a sharp speech

Argentine President Javier Milei on Tuesday denounced the United Nations’ “ideological agenda” and accused the body of being governed by “international bureaucrats” in a sharp speech before the General Assembly in New York in which he distanced himself from the “Pact for the Future” adopted on Sunday by 193 countries.

Milei congratulated the “remarkable success” achieved by the UN in its early years in the 20th century, but said that Over time the organization was transformed “in a multi-tentacled Leviathan that seeks to decide not only what each state or nation should do, but also how all citizens of the world should live.”

The president, who presented himself before the General Assembly of the organization as a “libertarian liberal economist” with no political experience, attacked “the model of supranational government of international bureaucrats” before which he gave his speech.

He accused the Security Council of having “denaturalized itself because the veto of its permanent members It began to be used in defense of private interests of some”.

“Argentina is going to abandon its position of historical neutrality that characterized her and will be at the forefront of the fight in defense of freedom,” he added, without giving further details.

He harshly criticised Agenda 2030 – a predecessor of the “Pact for the Future” that promoted a roadmap for sustainable development – considering it part of a “collectivist policy”.

“Although well-intentioned in its goals, (the 2030 Agenda) is nothing more than a supranational government program of a socialist nature “which seeks to resolve the problems of modernity with solutions that undermine the sovereignty of nation states and violate people’s right to life, liberty and property,” he said.

“In this same house that claims to defend human rights, they have allowed bloody dictatorships such as those in Cuba and Venezuela to enter the Human Rights Council without the slightest reproach,” she accused, also aiming her darts at what she considers to be the organization’s hypocrisy in relation to women’s rights and support for Israel.

“For this reason we want to officially express our dissent on the Pact of the Future (…) and we invite all nations of the free world to join us not only in dissenting from this pact, but in creating a new agenda,” he added, later calling it the “agenda of freedom.”

The Pact for the Future adopted on Sunday by the 193 member states of the UN provides for 56 “actions” to address the “greatest challenges” of our time.

These challenges range from peace and international law, the reform of the UN Security Council, global financial architecture and climate change, to more innovative issues such as artificial intelligence.

Milei said that the Pact for the Future “is nothing other than the deepening of that tragic course” that the UN set out with the 2030 Agenda and accused the organization of “total incapacity” in the face of terrorism.
