The Public Ministry reported that a special team of prosecutors has been formed, attached to the Attorney General’s Office, who since the early hours of Monday have been in the province of Bocas del Toro carrying out investigations into the complaint filed by the crime against humanity on possible non-consensual sterilization procedures.
The investigation began with a complaint filed on February 17, 2022, by deputy Kayra Harding, as president in charge of the Commission for Women, Children, Youth and the Family, after a health tour to the province Bocas del Toro, during the conversation one of the women denounced that they were sterilized without their consent once they gave birth.
Through a statement, the Public Ministry reiterated its commitment to offer society an impartial, objective, transparent, expeditious and uninterrupted administration of justice.
It should be noted that the Commission for Women, Children, Youth and the Family received complaints from a dozen women who, after giving birth in a distant hospital named El Silencio, woke up to find that they had been sterilized without their consent.
