President Luis Abinader announced this Monday that he will meet with the Ethics and Transparency Cabinet to establish a 15-day period for officials elected in the last elections who have not submitted their sworn declaration of assets to comply with the provisions of Law 311-14.
“We will give a period of 15 days for those who have not submitted it to the different levels to do so, and if not, they will be suspended. And if they do not do so 15 days later, they will be terminated. It’s as clear as that,” the president warned.
Abinader made the warning during his appearance in La Semanal, from New York, where he is completing an agenda within the framework of his participation in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UN) and in the UN Future Summit.
However, the president noted that they have been receiving a report from almost all the highest-level officials, and ministers and directors who have already submitted their reports, “with a few exceptions.” He said that not everyone has to do so, because those who continue in office who have already submitted their reports do not have to do so. “They are the elected officials,” he added.
On September 16, the deadline for legislators elected in the elections last May, appointed officials and those ratified, to submit their sworn declaration of assets expired.
Several days ago, the movement Citizen Participation expressed deep concern over what they consider a “mockery” by public officials regarding the Law on the Declaration of Public Assets.
According to the organizationa large majority of public servants have not complied with the obligation to submit their declaration within the period established by Law No. 311-14, which reflects apathy and laziness towards the legal mandate.
